Hangingstone was envisioned by a community of enthusiastic climbers who have built the first bouldering gym in Fort McMurray.

​Bouldering is a form of climbing that does not require ropes or harnesses. It relies on your strength, balance, and always evolving technique. Bouldering can be a fun and social way to exercise and meet new people. Whether you’re a student, someone looking to relax, or a family looking for an adventurous activity, Hangingstone has something for you!

The Space

Located in the heart of downtown Fort McMurray, our space features 1200 sqft of climbing surface, a café lounge to enjoy locally sourced coffee, and a retail shop for all your bouldering equipment needs. The Hangingstone Climbing Gym is a place where you can unleash your inner climber, have fun, and make new friends.

The Wall

Our newest wall offers a range of climbing angles from vertical to a 40-degree overhang. A collection of diverse volumes and holds will allow us to create an endless variety of problems for all skill levels.

The Front End

At our climbing gym you will be welcomed by our friendly front desk staff who can help you get ready for your session. Everything from memberships to merchandise can be taken care of here.

We’re excited to share that we have plans to create a café lounge where you can sit back, relax, and unwind while enjoying a thoughtful selection of premium local and international coffee. While it’s not available yet and still in the idea stage, stay tuned for updates as we explore this exciting possibility for the future!

Climbing and ​
​Fitness Programs

While we are not currently offering fitness classes, we have plans to introduce them in the future. You can look forward to age-specific climbing focused courses as well as personal training, Yoga, and Pilates.

We are happy to announce that our summer camps for kids are running between July and August 2024. Join us for a fun-filled summer of climbing adventures and new experiences.

Program Details

Our Roadmap

We are opening Hangingstone in phases starting with the soft opening which is now complete (Phase 1) and working up to our Grand Opening this fall.

Phase 1 includes the main feature bouldering wall, work out equipment and basic café services.

Phase 2 is where our project really begins to shine. Here we will have 2 max height auto belays, an 8 person sauna, additional specialized workout equipment, ​an expansion on our café menu, and many more holds and volumes to add to our collection!
